Texas Tech Rodeo Team Claims Title

The 58th annual Texas Tech National Intercollegiate Rodeo ended on a high note for the home team.  The Texas Tech women's team smoked the competition by earning 355 points; Vernon College placed second with 195 points.  A total of 16 colleges and universities competed at the Texas Tech University Equestrian Center on October 25th- 27th.  This marks the third straight intercollegiate rodeo championship this fall for the ladies.  The team is led by Academic All American Brittany Bennett- Hofstetter of Portales, New Mexico who finished first in barrel racing.  Other team members contributing to the win included:

Tiana Thornton:  San Angelo, Texas- 3rd place

Romany Gordon:  Castle Rock, Colorado- 5th place

Kelsey Friskup:  Muleshoe, Texas- 4th place, Breakaway calf roping

Heather Turner:  Cochrane, Alberta- 4th place, Goat tying

 

The men's team finished 4th with Jay Manning and Jake Brown placing in the team roping. Stetson Vest took top honors in the finals and 3rd overall in the calf roping.  Jake Brown also placed in the calf roping.
