ANSCI 3301
Horse Management
Horse Management
is a class in which the student learns
about the science of horse care, nutrition,
reproduction, lameness and diseases. This
class is the prerequisite for Ansci 4301
Horse Production.
Horse Management is taught during the
fall semesters by Dr. Heidi Brady.

3310 Principles of Equine Sales Prep
and Marketing
Sales Prep and
Marketing gets students involved with
marketing horses. Students will
participate in producing the annual TTU
Production Sale including consignments,
catalog, sale day and prepping TTU
horses.
This class is taught by Dr. Kim Guay.
ANSCI 4301
Horse Production
Horse Production
takes the student to a higher level of
equine science. Students learn more 'in
depth' facts and methods involving the
nutritional, reproductive, disease and
other aspects of the horse. There are
several field trips to various horse facilities
as well as a lab section in which the
students get a practical taste of the
horse world.
Horse Production is taught during the
spring semesters by Dr. Heidi Brady.
ANSCI 4403
Principles of Therapeutic Riding
Therapeutic Riding
is a special class that teaches the student
about the clinical aspect of hippotherapy.
Hippotherapy is used as therapy for people
with various disabilities to develop muscle,
coordination, and cognitive skills. At
Texas Tech, students work with the horses
and the therapists during sessions with
the clients (all of whom are ages 16 and
under). There is also a lecture section
which is dedicated to teaching the students
the clinical side of equine assisted therapy.
Therapeutic Riding
is taught during the Fall, Spring and
SS II by Dr. Heidi Brady. For more information

ANSCI 3304
Training and Management of Horses
Training and Management
of Horses is not for those who do not
want hours of intense work with horses!!
Students are assigned a horse and are
taught training methods to use to train
their horse. Most of these horses are
young and have never been in a training
situation, so it's very important to stay
safe! Experience with horses is a requirement
for this class as well as Instructor approval.

This class is taught during the Fall,
Spring and SS II.
ANSCI 4001
Special Problems
Special Problems
is a practicum that places the student
with a particular project or projects
specifically dealing with the horse industry.
Some projects, for example are working
in the barn during the breeding season,
fitting horses for a sale, or with ongoing
research (New Deal Horse Center).
Other projects may involve helping at
the TTU Rodeo Arena with Coach Chris
Guay; or helping with events at the
Equestrian Center with Dr. Guay.
Special Problems
can be taken during any semester under
either Chris Guay, Dr. Brady or Dr.
Guay. The amount
of hours taken may vary. If
you would like to enroll in Special
Problems, please contact one of us to
coordinate a project for you.
ANSCI
Internship
Internship can be
taken under any instructor at in the
Animal Science Dept.
Event
Coordinator Internship: This
internship teaches the student the ins and
outs of running an equine eventing
center. Students will work with
Center Director of the new Texas Tech
Equine Center to book, prepare for, and
manage events at the Center.
As a class project they will produce one
or two events of their own during the
semester. Class taught by Dr. Kim Guay
General
Horsemanship
General Horsemanship
is a new class designed to teach the basics
of owning a horse
to either those who want to be a better
owner or horseman; for those who are thinking
of buying a horse or for those who would
like to gain more confidence around horses.
Students will go over BASIC horse care,
nutrition, vaccinations, emergency care
and best of all... BASIC RIDING SKILLS!!!
Tack (saddles)
are NOT REQUIRED for this class.

Advanced
Horsemanship
Advanced Horsemanship
is a new class designed to teach
students more competitive riding skills for
equestrian events such as Working Cowhorse,
Western Pleasure, Reining; Trail; English
Equitation and Over fences!!!
Students MUST pass
a RIDE TEST to qualify for this class.
