The following files have been developed over the years for a variety of reasons. You may find some of them useful. A brief description follows by each file.

Diet Formulation Spreadsheet (diet.xls) – This simple ExcelÒ spreadsheet was developed for classroom purposes (Feeds and Feeding). It will allow trial-and-error formulation of diets with up to 12 feeds, and it includes a small feed library with a lookup function based on feed numbers.

TTU Diet Formulation Spreadsheet (ttu_diet.xls) – This ExcelÒ spreadsheet, which allows up to 40 feeds to be used, is also based on the principle of trial-and-error formulation. It contains the complete NRC (1996) feed library and provides output of all major nutrients and trace minerals, as well as dietary cation-anion balance. Recent modifications include the ability to archive and retrieve up to 50 formulations within the spreadsheet.

TTU Supplement Formulation Spreadsheet (supp_form.xls) – This ExcelÒ spreadsheet allows the user to input concentrations of major minerals and salt, trace minerals, vitamins, and selected feed additives that are desired in a supplement. Given the percent that the supplement makes up of the final diet, the program calculates the percentages of various ingredients needed to meet the specifications. Modest help screens are available throughout the program.

NEm and NEg Calculations (ne.xls) – This ExcelÒ spreadsheet uses a generalized quadratic solution to determine dietary NEm and NEg values based on intake and performance by cattle, using the NRC (1996) equations.

Sample Size Calculations (s_size.xls) – This ExcelÒ spreadsheet can be used to determine the sample size needed to detect a difference (specified as a percentage of the control treatment) given the coefficient of variation, a specified significance level, and the power of the test.

Orthogonal Coefficients for Unequally Spaced Treatments (orthog.doc)– This Microsoft WordÒ file describes how to use Proc IML of SAS to calculate coefficients for orthogonal contrasts (e.g., linear, quadratic, cubic, and so on). Examples of SAS code and output are included.

Laboratory Procedures in Animal Nutrition Research (lab_man.zip)– This is a Microsoft WordÒ file of a laboratory manual originally developed for use at New Mexico State University. The manual was updated in 1997 for use at West Texas A&M University. The file is in WinZip format, so you will need to use WinZip to extract it.
